Album Description: For the first time, the DVD premieres the previously unseen historic 1978 Tokyo concert, aired only once on Japanese TV. If you somehow have managed to make it nearly 30 years and do NOT own a copy of Cheap Trick at Budokan, in any of its prior incarnations (original 1CD, the 2 CD "Complete", LP, etc), then by all means, pick this up. The album is a fantastic, landmark 70's live rock album. With this reissue, the real prize here is the DVD, which while showing off some technical limitations of the time (very grainy, some focus issues, and the like) is actually a pretty charming document of what was a great show. ... Rick? Bun E.? I can hear you guys, but I can't see you.
The cameramen were focussed predominantly on Robin throughout, whereas I'd sure like to have seen more attention to Rick. Maybe he was too "frenetic" for his own good? If you were hoping to get a bead on Rick's craft -- forget that.
Enjoyable nonetheless.
[Yeah, the packaging. Well, the DVD has some surface imperfections related to that though it has no effect on its "playability."]

Historic, fascinating, a must have.
Don't hesitate, is the definitive "At the Budokan".

This concert proves, what Trickheads have known since 1974, these guys are so amazing live.
Watch this concert, and live/listen to the remastered gig. Cheap Trick at Budokan was and is the best 'LIVE' Rock'N'Roll concert ever recorded.
This is right up there with THEWHO's assuault on 'LEEDS UNIVERSITY' 8 years earlier for the awesome 'LIVE AT LEEDS'.

Please, please if you are reading this and deciding whether to purchase this collection- ignore all those 1-star ratings based on the "difficulties" with the packaging. I too had a light scratch on the disk- a quick polish and the problem was fixed. These guys deserve to have this excellent collection sell like wildfire- giving poor quality ratings based on packaging (rather than complaining directly to Amazon) hurts the artists as well as the company.
Anyway, off the soapbox. What a ... Read More
