Album Description:
Newly remastered sound and expanded packaging including lyrics of the Two CD set reissue of the 1994 album, recorded live A Night in San Francisco by Van Morrison. In contrast to these commercially-successful but not always critically acclaimed albums, the 1994 live double album, A Night in San Francisco was a "tour-de-force", clearly demonstrating Morrison's talents and his influences in equal measure and reached #8 on the UK charts. The Rolling Stone magazine review states the album stands as: "the culmination of a career's worth of soul-searching that finds Morrison's eyes turned toward heaven and his feet planted firmly on the ground."

If you've heard Van Morrison in concert, you know exactly what the title of this review means. He's at his finest on this recording. His bands are always comprised of top flight jazz musicians, and this is one fine listening treat. When he lived in my native Northern California area years ago, I saw him several times...from San Francisco's tiny Boardinghouse Theater to the "Safeway Market in the Sun" today, Sacramento's ill-fated Alhambra Theater. Fabulous CD with great Blues! I mean Terrific Awesome BLUES! A must have for a complete Van Morrison collection.

It's not always easy to pick a favorite when it comes to something you like, such as Van Morrison. However, this album is easily my favorite. Amazing band, great guest vocalists and there is that unique concert experience, where those songs will never sound the same again. Buy this album, you will not be disappointed!!

In the real world, another live album by Van Morrison would be met by most people & even some of his die-hard fans with a resounding yawn - yet the wonderful and largely ignored 1994 2 disc set "A Night In San Francisco" didn't and doesn't deserve that. Remastered and repackaged on this 30 June 2008 re-issue, there's even a half-decent bonus track tagged onto the end of CD 2 - "Cleaning Windows".
