This Yankee Flipper squirrel-proof feeder is the ultimate feeder for keeping your feathered friends fed, and the furred fiends hungry. Let's talk about the basics first. The sturdy polycarbonate feeding chamber is a whopping 4-3/4 inches in diameter and 21 inches long, giving you a break between refills--and ensuring that squirrels can't hang down from the top to reach seed. The four feeding chambers are easily accessible via the perch ring, and the interior of the chamber is designed to direct seed into the seed ports.
Now, for the fun stuff: The birdfeeder features an encased motor and rechargeable (and replaceable) batteries. When you receive the feeder, simply charge the batteries overnight, hang the feeder from its looped bail wire, and prepare to be amazed (and entertained!). The motor is connected to the weight activated perch ring--birds will not set it off, even larger species like woodpeckers and cardinals. But the minute a squirrel hops onto the perch, the motor is triggered and the feeder begins spinning, taking the squirrel for a whirl before it loses its grip and is thrown (gently) from the perch. This design has no tray to stop seeds from falling to the ground. I have watched small birds knock 5 sunflower seeds to the ground, eat one, knock 5 to the ground, eat one, etc. The squirrels are getting more seeds now from the ground than from our old feeder that they would occasionally jump to.
I have twice seen the feeder swinging wildly no doubt from a squirrel, but have never actually seen a squirrel on it, so don't expect any entertainment like shown on the video.

I recently purchased the Yankee Flipper from a local English Gardens store. First of all I'd like to say I'm an avid birder. First, this birdfeeder might be appealing to the eyes. A beautiful droll yankees, 5 pound capacity tube feeder. Then come the problems. There has been a lot of Mourning Doves, and Pigeons being able to sit on the perch ring, and they belong on the ground. They take up too much room and no other birds can feed. I don't know about this feeder - seems I'm now roaring through even more seed, with tons of pigeons, squirrels underneath the feeder (not on it though - suddenly 6 or 8 inches of seed will disappear - I think it dumps seed on the ground with the wind.
Also, my cardinals and other bright and interesting birds, don't appear to like the feeder. Small sparrows, pigeons and squirrels love it. Maybe I'll go back to having a squirrel acrobatically nabbing food, but use less seed, and get ... Read More

I am delighted with this bird feeder. My Mother has had one for years with great success.I have not seen any squirrels eating at mine and it has been filled a week and is only half empty. The birds are waiting in line to eat at it. I even saw a pretty big woodpecker at it yesterday. I was afraid he would get flipped but he ate at ease if upside down style ala woodpecker. It is great to have the birds and not have to fill up the feeded every other day. My indoor cat appreciates it too!

I debated if I should spend this amount of money on a silly bird feeder. So after thinking about how much I spend on seed and also how much pleasure we get from watching the variety of birds we have here....I decided it was worth the money.
