Editorial Review:
Amazon.com: Revealingly revisionist British mystery set in colonial India, this film offers a topnotch cast that includes Michael York, Christopher Plummer, Stacy Keach, Trevor Howard, and Richard Attenborough. Things are already tense, with the locals acting up, so when an officer's wife (Susannah York) is attacked and her honor sullied, the court martial looks for a native perpetrator. But as the tribunal begins its investigation, it uncovers simmering tensions within the ranks of the seemingly unassailable officers about British treatment of the Indians. Issues range from racism to class differences as the layers of this onion are revealed. The film was based on a hit play, and there's a stagey quality to it, but it's redeemed by strong performances all around. --Marshall Fine

Conduct Unbecoming proves to be a highly intriguing mystery movie that takes place in India during the latter part of the 19th Century during the height of the British Empire. In a world of high honor and integrity of Indian cavalry regiment, a dead officer's widow was attacked and her honor compromised. A new officer to the regiment falsely confessed to the crime in hopes to get out of the army but the regiment decided to conduct a secret court martial with dire consequences. Michael York played ... I WORKED AT LOWRY AFB MOVIE THEATRE # 1, AND WAS ENTITLED TO LEGALLY LET "COL MACK" INTO THIS MOVIE --- "COL MACK" WAS THE EPITOME OF HIGH AIR FORCE ESPRIT DE CORPS AND REMINDED ME OF SUPERIOR "CONDUCT BECOMING" AS AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN, AND HIS WIFE WHO WAS A REAL LADY. I INVITED THEM TO THE FILM AND THEY AGREED THEIR TIME WAS WELL SPENT:>) A GOOD COMPANION FILM WOULD BE THE SEAN CONNERY AND MICHAEL CAINE DVD "THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING"
THIS FILM REMINDS US ALL HOW IMPORTANT, ... Read More

A bravura cast, turn a fair example of Award Winning stage play (which it resembles) into a winner. Somewhat choppy and unmotivated in parts probably due to portions which were lost on the cutting room floor. Still, the mystery holds true and the acting makes this an extremly worthwhile film to view and own (you'll see it more than once). The young Michael York, as the protagonist, (not usually a personal favorite)is a pleasure and his performance holds up against the veterans.

This is a top-notch film, which, for some unknown reason, is almost never shown on TV. I echo the advice of the previous reviewer: Get it while you can.
By the way, I think it important to point out that the comments of the Editorial Reviewer are singularly misleading. "Conduct Unbecoming" does not in any way address class conflicts or racial issues. Most prominently, the court martial does not put a native on trial; on the contrary, it is a fellow officer who is charged. Yes, reviewing ... Read More

It is an absolute mystery to me why this superb movie isn't better known, recognized, and appreciated. Intelligent, sophisticated, riveting; wonderfully acted and directed, this is a film to own. Get it while you can.
