Product Description: Millions of Mitford fans around the world will agree—it’s easy to put on a pound or two reading a Mitford novel. Scene after scene of the bestselling series’ colorful characters enjoying tantalizing dishes can immediately start a craving. Then, before you know it, you’ve read several pages by the glow of the refrigerator lightbulb.
Packed with more than 150 recipes from the Mitford novels and from the author’s own recipe box, Jan Karon’s Mitford Cook-book & Kitchen Reader is loaded with tips, hints, jokes, culinary quotes, and delightful side-dish sidebars guaranteed to start a stomach rumbling. From Miss Sadie’s Apple Pie to Puny’s Cornbread, from Emma’s Pork Roast to Marge’s Sweet Tea with Peppermint, beloved characters come alive through their own favorite recipes. Here, too, are Karon’s reminiscences of her own family’s food traditions and—as dessert—four stories never before published in her books.
Jan Karon’s Mitford Cookbook & Kitchen Reader is a charming companion to the Mitford series that will have readers clamoring to bring into their own kitchens the aromas and flavors that swirl within the little town with the big heart.

This is a delightful book. If you are in love with Mitford and its people you will love this. You get all their wonderful recipes with snippets of the books they are in. Fantastic. Guaranteed to make you mouth water, and after making a few of these recipes, you will want to re read Mitford all over again.

Have you ever loved a book series so much that you hated finishing the last book? Did you feel like you were leaving folks you'd sort of grown attached to? I finished reading The Mitford Years series by Jan Karon and felt just this way! Then I stumbled upon the Mitford Cookbook at our public library. Unfortunately, they would not let me renew it a fourth time because someone came along and put a Hold on it! Since then, however, I have receive it as a gift - and have thoroughly enjoyed revisiting ... Read More

I thoroughly enjoy reading the excerpts from the Mitford books which reference the dish and precede the recipes. I read a few pages at a time while sitting at the breakfast or lunch table; moreover my husband lets me read to him, allowing me to share something of interest to me (the excerpts) and of interest to him (a new recipe). So far I have tried only Andrew's real hot cocoa recipe -- very sweet but delicious. Tonight we will try Velma's chili. This book will make a nice gift for a friend/Mitford ... Read More

This is a really attractive and beautifully written book, much more than a "regular" cookbook. I've tried several of the recipes and they were all perfect. Jan's "Pot of Beans" is a new staple in our house and Puny's Cheesecake was so easy and delicious at our family Christmas party. I highly recommend this book, and get an extra one because you will definitely want to share it as a gift to someone special.
