Amazon.com Review: Fifteen years and one Caldecott Medal after its publication, Chris Van Allsburg's The Polar Express is as fresh and magical as ever. And now an anniversary edition, including the hardcover book, a CD and audiotape featuring a reading by actor Liam Neeson and music by composer Michael Moss, and a special bronze ornament designed by Van Allsburg, renews the wonder and charm of this holiday classic.
One Christmas Eve, a bathrobe-clad boy boards the mysterious Polar Express train on its way to the North Pole. Arriving in the mystical polar city, the boy is thunderstruck when Santa chooses him to be the recipient of the very first gift of Christmas. Shyly, the boy asks for his true heart's desire--one silver bell from the harness of Santa's reindeer. His wish is granted, and the train begins its return trip. But alas! The boy has a hole in his pocket, and the cherished sleigh bell is lost... forever?
Author-illustrator Van Allsburg, who also received the Caldecott Medal for Jumanji and a Caldecott Honor for The Garden of Abdul Gasazi, is a creative talent beyond compare. The timeless splendor of his unique, breathtaking illustrations and quiet story will undoubtedly stay with the reader for a lifetime. (Ages 3 to 8) --Emilie Coulter

The theme plus the art work of this book are well worth having. To know that it developed into a really frist class animated video with a lesson which is ageless is truly worth thinking about.

This one deserves every award it gets. The text is magical and lyrical, the illustrations are gorgeous, and the story is simple and beautiful. My kids LOVE it.
This book is so much better than the DVD. It is hard to believe they are telling the same story. The DVD is full of the conductor, the tramp, the engineers, the wild ride. The book has none of that. The book simply tells about the journey, the gift, and the belief.
I get a little lump in my throat every time ... Read More

This book is a great child's book. We took our grandsons to the Polar Express in Bryson City, NC this past weekend. We gave them the book on the train ride, and Santa autographed the books for them. They both love the story. Going for a Christmas train ride on the Polar Express was a fantastic experience for them. It made the book so real.

This the best book ever! I have very fond memories of it myself, growing up. I had the gift set too! I loved holding the bell! I am now a teacher, one day hope to be a mother and it is a must have for anyone with children!!! Amazon has the best price around! Highly recommended! Great gift item too! I bought two: one for me and one for my nephew!
